Hamid Bourd, director general of the National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC), said the country’s oil exports continue “with force” and without major disruption. He told the local Fars agency that Iranian crude is being sold “through diverse methods and in adequate volumes,” rejecting claims of a decline circulating on social media.
Bourd emphasized that NIOC is focusing on diversifying markets to protect revenues. “The commitment of the National Iranian Oil Company is to maintain the flow of exports and ensure that Iran’s economy continues running, even in the face of difficulties and restrictions,” he said.
Iran’s foreign minister also warned Western governments against attempts to pressure Tehran, saying such efforts would not succeed.
The snapback mechanism was established under the 2015 Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) to allow for the automatic reimposition of UN sanctions in the event of alleged non-compliance. The United States withdrew from the deal in 2018 under President Donald Trump, re-imposing unilateral sanctions. In 2020, Washington tried to activate snapback at the UN Security Council, but its request was rejected as the U.S. was no longer a party to the agreement.
Negotiations to restore the JCPOA have since stalled. European signatories—Britain, France, and Germany—have accused Tehran of breaching commitments, while Iran insists its measures were within the accord’s framework after the U.S. withdrawal. Under U.S. pressure, the three governments moved to trigger snapback, reinstating UN sanctions as of Sunday.
Despite the renewed restrictions, Tehran insists its oil sector will continue to operate as a pillar of economic stability.
